TGIF! What a week. What better way to kick off the weekend than some Friday night quick takes?

Actually, I kicked off my weekend with a date night with Michael. We just got back from our favorite Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. It's such a treat for us to go out for a date, and a blessing to have special time for the two of us. I just love date nights. Always have, and I think I always will.

This was my first full week back in a routine post-holidays. It kicked my butt a little, but I also came down with a cold...and we had some absolutely FRIGID weather this week...so that could have had something to do with it. I also decided on my word of the year for 2014:

Speaking of quiet...have you heard this song, "Winter Snow," by Audrey Assad? It's beautiful.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I keep forgetting to mention my Saint of the Year, which I got via Jen's Patron Saint Generator.
{St. Anastasia of Sirmium}
I didn't know anything about her, but she is a patron saint for martyrs, weavers and widows.
Her feast day is December 25, and she is one of seven women (not counting Mary) commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass. Pretty cool!

My husband, Michael, got St. Thomas Aquinas.
As the patron saint of students, this is perfect for my husband, especially as he has a big semester coming up at school with his qualifying exams. Prayers appreciated for him!

While we're on the topic of 2014, I still have a little wrapping up of 2013 to do. I wanted to link up to Haley's What I read in 2013 post, but I didn't quite get my act together in time. So! I'll share a few of my favorites in this take. I recommend:
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption
Sarah's Key
Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust
Choosing to SEE: A Journey of Struggle and Hope
Those are a few of my favorites that I read in 2013!
When I was in junior high I owned a sweatshirt that looked something like this:
And I wore it proudly. Yep, I was that girl. Not ashamed! haha :)
What were your favorite 2013 reads? What's on your reading list for 2014?

Looking forward to a full weekend here in NYC. We will be taking down our Christmas decor and cleaning the apartment tomorrow, but then we have a double date planned with some dear friends. Sunday we are getting together with more friends, so it should be fun!
Hope you all have a great weekend, too! And click over to Jen's for more quick takes!

Audrey Assad is one of my favorites... And so is Immaculee! What inspiring women.
